About Mary S. Mosley
Mary Sidberry Mosley
A native Wilmingtonian, Mary Mosley grew up in the 1930s and ‘40s in an area known as “The Bottom.” She desired to be an educator and for 48 years she has helped countless young men and women reach their goals.
While teaching in this area, she felt a desire to rebuild and revitalize the neighborhood from which she came. After her retirement in 1993, Mrs. Mosley started The Family and Neighborhoods Institute of NC, Inc. which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to educating at-risk youth in New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington, North Carolina. Success has been overwhelming. Approximately 93% of her students pass their End-Of-Grade tests and are promoted. She is an inspiration to her volunteers and her students.
Mrs. Mosley’s extensive work in education and undying dedication to her community make her worthy of renaming the former Lakeside High School—the Mary S. Mosley Performance Learning Center.
